What are some famous (or not) cases in which Public Relations had to be used to fix the situation?
I am doing a research paper for my Communications class and I was just interested surrounded by some cases or issues with major companies that I may not be thinking of in which they have to use PR to "fix themselves".
For example: Firestone tires blowing up, McDonalds being outed by the documentary "Super Size Me."
Thanks!
Have a look at what Dow did after the Bhopal disaster.
And what Shell did after the Brent Spar fiasco.
It would be easier to find a case where a leading company has not tried to save money by resorting to PR rather than obverse up to the real problem.
By way of comparison, have a look at McSpotlight website.
It sprang up as a result of the libel trial that McDonalds brought against two London activist. The case lasted years and is widely regarded as the 'biggest public relations disaster within corporate history'!
Look at the news any single day. Anytime there is a press conference, it is PR.
