Age of majority in Ny is 21 ,son is 18 and he is recieving medical bills in his name..?

Are his parents responsible? Son has mental problems and since he's 18 the parents can't deal with the billing dept due to hippa law.
So if he chooses to ignore the bills does the backlash fall on the parents?
The backlash comes to the parents, only if the parents signed record of consent for the treatment. Another word, if you indicated anywhere in writing that you were acting as a guardian then you also declare that the patient is not capable of deciding for himself, thus lower than your care. Therefore you do bare the responsibility of paying for the treatment as well.
