marriage is a legal contract not a religious one what gives you the right to dictate the laws ?
The contract is a vow of love between two and if you break your vow (which evidently means nothing to allot of PEOPLE, you have broken the contract. PEOPLE made the laws and PEOPLE should obey the laws BUT allot of PEOPLE don't care about anything any more, not even each other. You sure are into this, you must be in a spot of your own?
It's called 'civilized society'.
That's what separates us from the animals.
Marriage should never be under the control of the civil government. It should never be 'licensed' as if we need some bureaucrat's permission to get married. Get the government completely out of the business of saying who can and who can't get married.
Law is based on mutual observance of contracts. Marriage is just a contract in law. No different than the contract you have with your employer that requires them to give you the cheque they promised in return for the work you did. If you or they renege on this contract, society has a court system to 'judge' who is at fault, and see that the matter is settled.
The original purpose of the marriage contract was to bind couples who were likely to have children, ostensibly to safeguard the welfare of the children, but because of other laws (tax laws, benefit obligations, business law, etc.) it seems entirely unreasonable at this point to observe this narrow intent. The 'protection of children' explanation loses all meaning in a society that allows divorce.
Answers:
Dear Friend,
Law is a product of the Legislature, with the consent (usually) of the President, as interpreted by the Judiciary. Each of these branches are controlled overwhelmingly by Christians. When pagans get political power (ha!) then they can make the rules. It's called 'democracy.'
Yours in Him,
Francesois
civil law defines marriage as ' a family law contract'. But if you believe a religion it gives you the related status but 'dictating the laws' Never. You don't become a Tirane of the family. you just build a family.
In most cases, it is BOTH legal and religious.
To whom are you referring to making the laws? In this country, USA, we vote on the laws. So I guess it would be my voter's registration card that gives me the right to make laws.
Perhaps you need to make your question a little more clear as to what you are objecting to.
kaguraofthewind, you've got a lot of very smart people
answering your question. Marriage is a vow, a legal
contract and for many a religious rite(not right).
It is a basic unit of sound civilization. Pray for
people that are married. God knows, they need it. The
first miracle Jesus did was at the Marriage of
Cana, John 2;1.
I Corinthians 13;8a, Love never fails.
Religion is just another way to dictate more laws to control and instill fear among the masses!
It is a legal contract but for a Christian it is a vow.
Stability, my son!
Master.
Why or whom are you angry with? GOD or the state? Marriage, in itself is a religious contract established by God - 'In the beginning...', many centuries ago. Marriage is an oath promised to God that no other man / woman will come between the two. To get married you only had to be committed to each other (no blood tests, no marriage certificates), just a verbal promise. Have you ever attended a wedding and heard the statement asking GOD to help protect and sanctify the union of marriage? Well, GOD's law should come before any state mandated law [unless you don't believe in GOD]. ******************************
On the other side of the coin, [TODAY] Marriage is also, a legal contract, whereby a license must be obtained, a blood test be taken and approval given before that marriage is considered binding by the state. You must get the state's permission to even dissolve that marriage. Basically, both are contracts one is governed by the state - the other by GOD. God uses marriage [not taxes] to build up his Kingdom. The state system sees marriage from a financial aspect. I would rather ask God's permission than to petition the state. So who or whom are you upset with to ask a question such as this? GOD or the state?
Agrees, we are humans who make laws, without laws, Kaos.
It's legal and religious.
