Family Situation...?

Ok, we hired one of our family members to fix our truck. I told my husband that we should make reciepts (which I own all ready but have not given him)

I know I hear this over and over, but you must (regardless of the situation) hold on to reciepts. JUST IN CASE.

What do you think we should do, I am "hiding" the reciepts for our benefit BUT should we give our "father in law" a copy too?

"Cover Your Assets" is what I widely read, just in case.

Help, ASAP.......starting reciepts presently.
It is always progress to have reciepts to cover yourself. But also make sure the person signs it our it will not be flawless.
If your individual expense so far is receipts for materials from your local auto parts store then hang onto them for warranty purposes.

More importantly, you should be keeping track of his time spent if he expects hourly compensation and the hourly rate should be pre-determined.

If you want to make sure you're getting a polite job, go to a licensed professional. The backyard mechanic can take twice as long and probably misdignose troubles.

Ahh, and if it's family, they'll get around to it when its most convenient for them as they are doing you a favor.
I would give him a copy also. That way he knows that you are keeping track and that mode he can't think you are trying to screw him over if he thinks he paid more but you don't hold receipts for it. They have those little carbon copy things at walmart for like 50 cents. That is what I use. That way respectively payment is numbered and both yours and his receipt will match.
