hypothetical... if you legalized marijuana and taxed it heavily what would be the impact?....?

This is not meant as a partisan question a friend and i be discussing this in all seriousness... states like Alaska and Ca already hold some form of legalization both Clinton and Palin have admitted using it... with popular shows similar to weeds and the chapel show it seems to have little social resistance anymore... So what do you surmise the impact would be (social and fiscally) if they were to legalize marijuana and tax it heavily even more so than tobacco and alcohol? Would it be a foil for the budget, save prisons and reduce hardcore drug use or create a downward spiral? opinions?

Great question? The push button word was " heavily" If there is a demand for it empire will pay for it. People pay 5.00 for a pack of cancer! But the increased tax revenue will be spent by the corrupt politicians.
The 60's are over.
Legalizing marijuana would increase its usage. That, IMO, would be a cynical socially. Taxing it heavily would create a black market. Like there is already. I doubt it would generate a significant amount of income, because of the "tax free" black market. The ATF would become the MATF.
There would be a moderate increase surrounded by marijuana use. That said, provided the taxation wasn't ridiculously high, the most significant consequence would follow from the change in *who* is selling. It would become part of the pack of legitimate business enterprises, depriving criminal organizations of a substantial portion of their revenue. The consequences of that would probably be pretty significant. Moreover, it would check dealers' access to their customer base. Marijuana *is* a gateway drug, mainly because many of the population who sell it will also push harder drugs. I strongly suspect you'd see a significant long-term drop in use of drugs other than marijuana. Of course, I am somewhat concerned going on for certain practical issues, since there are obviously endeavours that intoxicated people should not be engaged in, and there's no reliable passageway of testing for marijuana intoxication.
Marijuana is not informal in Alaska in any way (I'm a cop here). I deduce it would have a very negative impact on society as a unbroken. Granted, the tax money would be more but I think unemployment would turn up. I've seen people lose their jobs because they considered necessary to stay home and smoke all day just once. Traded an entire profession for just one day of being stoned.
Marijuana is not illegal surrounded by Alaska in any way (I'm a cop here). Yes it is, maybe not according to alaska directive but it is still a violation of federal law and thus it is still illegal. Besides family are stupid enough without smoking that crap.
It would increase the black market for marijuana than it is now. People could market it without going through government channels and taxes and not capture arrested for possessing it. It would just increase drug use and not make any money.
Easy here, it doesn't have to be taxed "heavily", just removing the stupid ruling, would help a lot. there are so plentiful people in jail and prisons serving ridiculous sentences, freshly that part alone would free up billions of dollars, the absurd "war on drugs" is a huge failure, and an even bigger consume of money, It would free up cops time to chase REAL criminals, it would free up the courts for the same reason, You see the reason pot is tied to crime is BECAUSE its illegitimate, and NO not everyone will be doing it, that's just another part of the stupid "propaganda campaign of lies" the management is using to continue it's plunge to tho bottom, Have you noticed lately, that everything the government involves itself contained by turns to sh*t? We can't believe a word that comes out of Washington, or that the media for that matter. If you really want to see whats going to happen to this country purely Google Aaron Russo, Micheal Moore could learn a bunch from him. Oh, and watch the 1/2 hour clip it's worth it.
