How to speak to a psychiatrist?

Any tips on how to speak to a psychiatrist and request the release of a close relative. She was wrongly accused of shoplifting and got into a fricass with a police officer.
Speak to an attorney first, and get a written release of information signed [with two witnesses] by the patient who had allegedly been mistreated. Doctors are prohibited from giving information to anybody but the patient without written release signed by the patient.
just open up, if you don't speak you get nowhere

Answer:
You should be consulting an attorney FIRST. Also, just be very straight forward with the psychiatrist. Keep in mind that he/she may tell you 'No Way'.
