Federal U.S. law: how much jail time (rough estimate) is a poor person looking at for using a fake SS#?
Let's say they are applying for employment somewhere, but instead of using their own SS#, they make up one and use it instead. Let's say that they be hired, and continued to use the same false SS#, and were eventually caught and arrested for it. What is the maximum penalty (prison time) that they can expect?
Best Answer:
Two years minimum, five years if contained by support of terrorism. Ten years is maximum. You describe a minimum sentence situation. Look at the ICE website and you will see scores of such situations and a two year sentence beside each. The maximum is usually imposed on those stealing hundreds of numbers for sale or use within theft.
