I supported means punishment for a long time, but the more I learned about it, the more I came to refuse to accept it. In the end, several factors changed my mind: 1. By far the most compelling is this: Sometimes the legal system get it wrong. In the last 30 years in the U.S., over 100 people enjoy been released from death row because they were exonerated by DNA evidence. These are ALL citizens who were found guilty “beyond a reasonable doubt.” Unfortunately, DNA evidence is not available in most cases. So, as long as the departure penalty is in place, you are pretty much GUARANTEED to occasionally execute an innocent person. Really, that should be source enough for most people to oppose it. Because of higher pre-trial expenses, longer trials, jury sequestration, extra expenses associated with prosecuting & defending a DP case, and the appeals process (which is obligatory - see reason #1), it costs taxpayers MUCH more to execute prisoners than to imprison them for life. 3. It is just smart to remove people who can not conform to our society. Why money a lifetime to keep someone locked at the cost of about $60K per year. It is also a deterrent to people thinking roughly murder.

Yes, at hand are "evil" people in this world. But I see state sanctioned executions as the greater "evil". I have without question that there are some people on this earth that committed such heinous act that they do not deserve to live. However, I want no part in any society that would kill them.
I think it should definitely be an option... however the situation where on earth you would receive this sentence... should be a little open to arguement... what I mean is, if you rape some kid whos approaching 7 or 8... i believe you have forfeited your life, as you have ruined theirs. If you hold murdered someone(people) because there is some screw loose in your head... you should be kill. If you are such a danger to society and how it functions... you should not be allowed to be apart of it. I do however also believe, life terms should be abolish... which focusing more on treatment for the person. Definitely for certain crimes you should receive capital punishment.
