my mom forged my dads signature on a stimulus check... how bad of a federal offense is this?

They were officially divorced April 30th of last year and when the stimulus checks be sent out last year they were to split it (it was contained by the papers) and my mom FORGED my dad's name on the check and kept the whole $1600 to herself and my dad found out about this and have been in contact with the IRS ever since the incident and and after nourishing out a bunch of paperwork he just got the copy of the check in the messages today and he is going to press charges on her now that he finally has the evidence... I'm just wondering if anyone have any knowledge on federal offenses and will my mom get major detention centre time??? What degree is this considered of federal offenses? My mom really messed up didn't she? I've heard the IRS is no one to mess near.

I'm no lawyer but common sense say...federal check...federal crime! I would say it's a good possibility of jail time ahead for her! Would be nice for your Dad to make a contribution her the opportunity to re-pay him before he pursues these serious charges....
It IS A VERY SERIOUS OFFENSE to pretend you are someone your not.
Why are you and your Dad against your mother. If I was your Dad, I would request that she gives me my part or I could wallet charges. The reason, your Dad will spend out more money trying to support a charge against her. Because at the time that the stimulus was approved, they were married. When the check come they were divorced. Therefore the check should have been included within the divorce proceedings. Try to get along with each other. Now days men are slaughter the wife and children
FEDRAL means vast poop, hope it was worth it to your mum
Federal forgery, could be 10 years in jail.
this is no joke this is a serious felony and ripping off the IRS is not similar to ripping off Walmart if caught she will do some major time
