What happens to custody and child support when I turn 18?
Can I decide to live with my dad when I'm 18? Will the child support still go to my mom if I don't live next to her? will she still have custody? does child support go to the parent if the child doesn't live with them? My elder sister is about to turn 21 and her child support will end, and she doesn't live with my mother right very soon yet my mom still gets her child support money. I'm about to turn 18 and I want to live next to my dad because he is way closer to the college I'm going to. My mom claims that I can't move out, but it just seems resembling she wants money. It's not like I'm totally abandoning her, I'm a short time ago trying to save money from living in dorms. I'll still visit contained by my free time and unless she wants to pay me 8000 dollars I'm planning on moving in near my dad after I turn 18. I live in Oregon.

Once you're 18 you can live where you want. The rules about child support usually last until the child is emancipated (i.e. no longer dependent on the custodial parent) or until graduation from college. You'd have to check the resourceful court order in order to know for sure. Good luck!
Legally, when your 18 it YOUR decision. Whether ou want to stay with any of your parents or just go off by yourself.... its up to you.

Usually if you are attending college, but change who you are living with, your dad will enjoy to return to court to get the child support changed. Often the child support will stop when you are no longer attending school, but since you are attending college, it will continue, but the money should be going to your dad if you are going to live next to him.
The age of majority in Oregon is 18. you can legally move out and your mother cannot stop you. And as you will be a decriminalized adult, no one will have custody over you anymore. She may not be officially required to support you either. Actually, your father may not be legally required to support you either. You should be aware of it in the past you start counting your chickens (adding up the money saved or child support to be paid). Now as for child support, unless there is an agreement in place that provides for child support to be rewarded until the age of 21, it stops at 18. And if it currently says it goes to your mother (from your father), he will need a court command to stop payment. He will not have to pay it to you any as child support is only paid to a parent, never a child directly. So you can move in beside your dad but there will be no money. And even if you stay with your mom, there may still be no money if the child support agreement for YOU doesn't verbs the payments past your 18th birthday. Good luck!
when you change residency and are a full time student in college..your parents need to address this within family court for any changes..with residency and child support
You necessitate to ask her what the court documents say. If they say you must live with your mother until you're 21 after that's what you must do. It costs money to get the thing back into the courtroom for a alter but maybe your mother has other reasons why you should not be living beside your father. Maybe your mom doesn't want this back into the courtroom beause you said she still receives child support for your sister. You say your mother still get child support for your sister but that doesn't sound possible, are you sure? The divorce was not between you and your father it was between your parents and the court so if you want any changeover the court needs to be petitioned.
IN Wisconsin once you turn 18 if you are still within school or in college the money will cont. unti you turn 21.You can go contained by front of the judge and request the funds to sent to you. good luck
