Legal advice-please help!?

Alright so my mother bought me an Ipod touch as a Christmas Gift. I let my cousin borrow it. He let this guy look at it, and that guy had my iPod taken away by the educationalist. My cousin went to the restroom. When he came back, that guy took final the iPod from the teacher and left. (This was adjectives during Friday) We could not find him so we assumed that he would return it the following Monday. He did not bring it. We asked for it and he says that "some black guy jumped him for it". Then he showed us a small little fresh cut (that he probably made himself) to show that he got jump. So is he the person that should pay for my Ipod? Please respond as soon as possible. I feel similar to he's ripping me off. And if he truly is, should I contact an attorney of some sort? I have already talked to the university administrators about this, and they are further investigating it. Thank you for your time

in the end, he's responsible
1) since he go the ipod confiscated by the teacerh
2) he took the ipod minus returning it
3) he's the one that lost it.

. its a civil matter.
