What can one do to get a decent job as a ex con...?
27 yrs w/out breaking a law, 18 I was when I did what I did & yes I ask 4 forgivness everyday, no one is harder on me than I. I hold tried 2 take the 2nd chance I was given and become a responsible citizen, but surrounded by the past 5 to 8 yrs I have come to realize that america has taken a step towards facism, human being hard on crime is a theroy I understand, being discrimnating of an ex felon I can not. I agree unquestionable jobs should be denied from ex felons, like dealing w/ur kids etc, but the surroundings check system has been taken to a level that borders on nouns. as an ex felon I am not employable in any good paying jobs, and yes I apply for job I am well qualified for. I paid my debt, but big business decided to hold on to me and my family desitute, poor and almost homeless on many occassions. I heard it adjectives form u racist, republicans and ignorant fear mongers, "you should of thought about---, stop crying, too bad etc etc " I of late want to (what did my kids do to be denied what ur K get?.....
"big business decided to keep me and my nearest and dearest desitute, poor and almost homeless on many occassions. I heard it all form u racist, republicans and unacquainted fear mongers"
You can start by taking responsibility for your situation and stop blaming someone else. I say that not because you're an ex-con, but because you are whining that it's someone else's fault. The certainty is, it doesn't MATTER whose fault your situation is, it's YOUR situation, YOU have to take responsibility for it. In other words, even if you are RIGHT that it's their failing, it's still YOUR PROBLEM.
Now, when you go in to ask for a job, and you take that attitude with you, whether you come across as surly or obsequious, they're going to see it and show you the door. You have to lose that attitude or you're going NOWHERE.
If we have that straight, and you may own to think about it for a while and talk to someone who in actuality thinks positively of you about it to see that it's constructive criticism not a condemnation, we can move on.
How you verbs is first decide what it is you want to do, what problem you want to solve for other people, what you would like to spend your time doing if you hit the lottery for a bazillion bucks tomorrow. That's the opportunity you want.
Now you have two choices. Find someone to hire you, and believe me, if you have a positive attitude and a minimal degree of competence at the opportunity, the 27 year old felony won't be an issue. The other is to go into business for yourself, which is a better choice if it is feasible.
The bottom queue here is that the problem is NOT the criminal record. 27 years IS a long time, no one but you remembers it anymore (with a few exceptions possibly), it's that you probably come across in duty applications as not really wanting the job, and you may well not.
Find something you DO want. Don't take "no" for an answer, even if it channel you have to open your own business.
Background checks usually only walk for 7-10 years.
File to have your record sealed. You can do it yourself and don't obligation a lawyer.
If you have never filed to hold your civil rights restored then I don't want to hear about you complaining about who is contained by office.
You can have your rights restored. Ya it does suck that people don't want to impart people a second chance. The government does afford opportunity for you to gain some of your rights back.
