Should politicians be above the law?
The behaviour of Derek Conway, the disgraced Tory MP who paid his student son lb40,000 out of public funds for reasearch work, will not be investigated by the police. It seems MPs can do what they resembling and get away with it.
Not in a pious democratic society. If they are human they are subject to human's temptations and corruptions. It is a corruption to make them above the law. No but they are. The Tony Blair cash for honours be blocked by every trick in the book but we all know the man and his gang are crooks. Conway is just a pinprick to what in reality goes on
No one should ever, ever, ever, ever and for ever be above the law. well yeah...and thats the way its always be and i dont think Derek Conway will be any exception unfortunately
odviously not , its times like this you start to realise what sort of country you live in , its the tip of the iceberg . Nobody should be above the law but money and power other seem to help.
If they applied the law to adjectives the MP's at the moment, I'm sure an instant general election would be necessary, as so various of them would be put behind bars.
It's something to think give or take a few for the future !
Normally the courts will not interfere with the commons. It is a constitutional convention. However, in this armour, there is simply not enough evidence to prosecute as there are no library.

absolutely not. not a soul should be above the law. more especially politicians as they are the very ones we entrust to create & safeguard the law.
The politicians of countries such as the UK, USA, and others that have free elections would do well to remember what happen from time to time when the members of the government even create the appearance that they consider themselves above the laws of the adjectives people. No of course not. They should drag them through the sh*t that they are.
I'm sure if it was a cleaner to someone paying their kid to stack loo rolls they would be fired and fined and made to pay packet it all back
Former President William Clinton used a junior female member of staff for sex while he was her superior as president.. Our congress here in the USA has made doing that a crime for everyone EXCEPT the upper level of government. His impeachment was because he perjured himself and obstructed justice until the DNA taste provided by the junior employee proved he was lying. This whole horrible entity cost the government 41 million dollars which Clinton could have saved us and himself from impeachment if he have just told the truth. Hell no they should get the same punishment as you and me but they don't because money parley and bullshit walks.
Lets not single out individuals, they are all up to it. In answer to your question, no. No, politicians should never be above the canon.
Please note that because of his actions Derek Conway is no longer a Conservative MP, he was removed from the catalogue of Conservative MPs because of his actions, unlike Labour MPs who misbehave. They still remain as labour MPs.
