I am my father's next of kin living out of state..help...he died??
My father passed away today and I am next of kin. My aunt called me and informed me. I am in Georgia, he be in California. My aunt needed my signature and a statement saying the following: I blank blank aurthorize my aunt to handle disposititon and property of my dad..crust number blah blah." This was faxed to the medical examiner. My question is did this sign over all his property to her? Did I in recent times sign away my inheritence if I had any. I do not know if there was a will. I assume if near was, I was the executor? Please help me. What should I do. Can I retract the faxed statement?
You stipulation to contact you fathers attorney immediately. Your aunt is trying to take watchfulness of everything, and may very well try to take away any inheritance that your father be leaving to you.
You need to contact a lawyer for yourself as soon as possible, and the document you sent to the medical examiner will not be lawfully binding.
You need to obtain a copy of your Dad's will, and make sure that you are present for the reading of the will. Many family try to pull all kinds of underhanded movements when family members pass, I do not know how close of a relationship you hold with your Aunt, but something sounds fishy here.
I am very sorry for your loss, I hope that everything works out for the best for you and your Dad's wishes will be taken care of.
It is not a legitimate document. She is trying to get you to give her "power of attorney"which needs to be notorized.Do not supply her crap because you won't get crap.By now what he did have she proably have. You should never have given it to her but, since it was an illegal document you can sue,but do you own the money?do you have proof of what property there was?You stipulation to contact a lawyer on this one. Most will give you free advice on this. you might want to spend a hundred bucks or so and have a word to a lawyer
