Just a quick poll, do you think assisted suicide should be legal?
In the wake of Dr. Kevorkian about to be released after 8 years in prison, I just was curious if a majority of people thought he was wrong for doing what he did.
I do believe in assisted suicide but Kevorkian is an idiot. Doctors were already helping people but he had to go and make an issue of it to promote himself.
When my uncle was terminal with cancer they pumped him so full of morphine at the end that he was dead either way. My mom recognized this (she is in the medical field) and told me later.
I think it should. We dont want to be overpopulated like China.
I hear all this big talk about GOD, and how important it is to be loyal to HIM . What allmost everbody doesn't seem to understand, is that besides being born, dying is the only thing that affects you in a permanent way. Why would anybody want to force someone, not to have the 'SPIRITUAL' freedom to chose not to needlessly suffer at the end of life? You'd do it for your pet ? Why not let a fellow human being enjoy the same love and compassion ? If your particular faith thinks that it is wrong to do, Please, just don't mess with anybody else's ! We all have a GOD given right to worship and believe as we choose. Let others do what they feel is the best way for them to show their faith.Someday you will die, but before you do, I'M SURE THESE QUESTIONS WILL BE IN YOUR THOUGHTS !
I believe for those with terminal illnesses it should be an available option.
There are lots of caveats that I would add to that, but generally speaking, I believe it is the choice of the person with the illness to make that determination.
I absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, believe that assisted suicide should be legal! *sm*
I am of the opinion that a person should be able to control their own lives, and in this case, their death too.
Oregon has a comprehensive euthanasia program that started in 1997 (October I believe) and has not reported a *single* problem because of said program.
Patients have to be terminally ill first off. And they are required to attend at least 3 visits from a trained professional spread out over 6 months minimum.
They make sure the patient wants this and isn't in just a depressive state.
California is trying to get something very similar passed.
I feel that Dr. Kevorkian assisted people who asked for his assistance. These people were in pain and couldn't live a normal life.
I don't think that he was wrong.
No.

I think there should be a lot more Kevorkian's out there. yes, it should be legal. We will put a suffering animal to sleep but won't do the same for a human that chooses to leave this world with dignity.
PS To the guy above that says we don't want to be over populated like China. Helloooo, its not about population, IT's about pain and suffering and no hope left to ever get better. Geez, don't let that guy get appointed to put anyone to sleep.
I don't know exactly what he did, but depending on the circumstances, in some cases it should be legal. If for instance a loved one is suffering and they want you to pull the plug and you do, then yes that shouldn't be illegal.
