Internet Scam... HELP!?

I just fell victim to an internet scam!!! I thought I was smarter than this but they get me! I had been surfing the net for a roommate to lift over my apartment so I could move back home and fell into roommates.com, someone sent me a check for almost $4K to cover his plane ticket here and pay first month's rent and utilities, it looked legit, I called to inquire going on for the check, I was told to deposit the check at my bank! I got become aware of from the bank that the check was counterfeit and they are closing my account and I owe the mound money!! Now I still owe the bank almost $3K and they're taking me to court. I spoke to cops right after it happened and the only item they said was there isn't a great chance of finding this party. He's probably long gone by now. They were no help at adjectives. I go to court in 2 weeks over this, I am so afraid they will put me in young offenders` institution. I've heard they will garnish your wages but I'm not working right presently, i'm trying to go back to school. What will I do?????
1 not going to lock up. No jail for getting conned in this country.

Tell the truth, present the facts, and unfortunatly, plan on being out 3k and costs. Police are seeing more and more of this. Hope for the best and correct luck

Why did you spend 3K when you didn't even know the person to begin with??
You won't be going to lock away.. get a lawyer to protect your rights.. you will still owe the money to the bank near is no way to get out of that.
You should have put it contained by the bank and waited until it cleared when the bank said it be bad you would have been out no money at adjectives. Always wait until it clears especially a large check from someone you never met!
