I wanted to be a lawyer when I was in elementary school. We had a career day and the lawyer who came to my school was the only one who had a cell phone. I know that's a stupid reason to pick a career but at the time that's all I needed. For about 3 years after that all I wanted to be was a lawyer. My grandmother (she raised) realized that a child my age couldn't make a desicion like that based only on owning a cell phone. She I had to know all the facts about the job. As such, she took me to meet with her lawyer and I got to ask him questions about his job. Later in the week he let me accompany him to court where I got to side behind him during a trial. When you're 11 that's mega cool! Speaking to counselors is a good way to go...but speaking right to the horse's mouth would help a lot more. Then your child could ask them question about their job and find out first hand what it takes. By my grandmother taking me to talk with her lawyer I found out it wasn't something I wanted to do. I'm not that great at public speaking and I have a better nack at writing...if you can't already tell. :) To set up a meeting with a lawyer try your own personal lawyer or even a pro-bono office like a public defander.
