Is it illegal for me to date someone who is 13 when i am 17 with a 3 and a half year age difference?
I live in Alabama
Best Answer:
there are 2 issues. The actual law concerning statuatory rape comes into play for ANYONE under the age of 16. The age difference is involved, one and only between 16-18. What you might be forgetting is that the law recognizes the authority of the parent to control what the 13 yr old does, sex or no sex. Meaning, what the parent say (even concerning dates) IS the law. You could be violating the law if you flout their direct orders to not be involved with the child.. You are playing with fire, any way you go.
What part of statutory rape don't you understand?

most state laws have a "Romeo and Juliet" clause contained by statutory rape determination. It exempts age differences of up to 4 years from statutory rape. The age differential limit varies from state to state.
