It is a question of negotiation between the surviving family and the bank. The ridge may agree to continue the loan if the survivors can make the payments, or the parties may market the house and repay the loan from the proceeds. The bank will expect to be paid. Often there is an insurance policy from which the loan can be discharged. I am assuming you are surrounded by Australia based on the question. The rules may be different within other places.
If the murder occurred in the house, I'd have to say-so the first thing is you have a crime scene. Okay what happens to the mortgage. Well typically the slit of an estate stays a foreclosure, but not necessarily. It depends on the jurisdiction and who's representing the administration of the estate. Also, the girl that survived is likely the only descendant. Its probably going to be sold and any cash realized goes to the expenses of the estate and later to the heir.
