so why the sudden moral certainty about gay marriage, or is nearby something else going on i don't know about as a foreigner. animals too by the looks of some of the titles. racist find blacks disgusting but would we use that as a base for punitive legislation.

California only likes straight porn.
The porn industry is only base in California because it is an offshoot of Hollywood. In fact, a couple years ago there be talk about California passing law requiring condoms in porn productions, which would have pushed the porn industry out of state (I never followed up on this story). Nevertheless, the porn industry represents only a small minority of Californians. And at hand is no "sudden moral certainty about gay marriage." Prop 8 passed by in the region of 52% of the voting population. A few years ago (2000 if I recall correctly), there was another proposition dealing next to banning gay marriage and it also passed, that time by a wider margin. If anything, the "moral certainty" that gay wedding is wrong is an idea that is slowly waning surrounded by California.
Well I think the theory of "marriage" rather than civil unions is what's burning under their skins. For doesn`t matter what reason, Californians have decided to draw the vein. Frankly, as a Conservative and a Republican, I have nothing against either same-sex nuptials or the porn industry ( gay or straight or any combo thereof). Porn is no different than any of the other products they throw at adults for money. As much as there are detractors, where you have adults agreeing to form porn movies and they get paid for it, they are sure going to go to work. As an aside, what do porn actor and actresses do when they're not making porn movies? I've always wondered.
Santa Barbara is, but its also the home of star trek, all the M class planet desert and scrub/bush scene were filmed near here but that doesn't mean we all live in total harmony. Your equating something that is mass marketed for straight men against something which most straight men find disgusting, unless obviously you throw in a couple of lesbians and a donkey
To be honest, this whole debacle in California borders on a scream. Not for the gay community of course, but for foreigners looking in. Just makes Californians look approaching little children who can't make up their minds :).
