Do you think the UK should bring in the 3 strikes and your out policy?

Do three crimes and you will die in prison, would that sort crime out. I think it would look what happened to the crime rates in New York after they implemented this.
The judges do not like policies that determine sentences and which give them no chance to consider the mitigating circumstances. There is supposed to be a divide between the law makers and those who administer it.

To imprison all that truly 'deserve' it would cost a fortune from our taxes. I certainly consider myself a liberal but I believe that we have simply got to bite the bullet and increase taxes to the point where we can fund all these things that we 'all' want

With the size of our prison population exceeding 80,000, I don't think so!

The three strikes policy is a product of new right conservatives (nutters), it would certainly have been either Charles Murry or James Q Wilson who came up with the idea. It was used in America to remove its social problems and put them behind bars. They needed policy to CURE social problems, not lock them away!

And I suppose you are one of those people who think crime in the UK has been on the increase for the past decade... well you're wrong lol. Source? I'm a criminology student!
No ... The law has not been shown, proved, to be fully defined and in a innocent until shown to be guilty system it would be wrong to discourage our explorers of the landscape be that geographical or logical.

yes mayor Giuliani turned crime around with this policy & now New York is safer than London!
i think it would be a very, very good idea,
but no doubt human rights, over-crowding in prisons & the extra prison officers that would be needed, will scupper it before it even got started or considered.
crime is out of control here in the UK, they must do something & do it soon!
