Why is the patriot act a good thing?
Please, please, people, don't tell me how much the patriot act sucks, personaly I deduce it's a flawed piece of legislation on so many levels, but I'm gonna be debating this next week and I drew the short stick so I enjoy to defend it.
Does anyone now of any good sources of information on the subject? I'm going to focus particurlaly on surveillance.
Thank you!
Is it congress debate? Policy?
What type of debate is it?
First stale, try to think of how the Patriot Act puts safety before anything else. This should be the spring of your entire speech[es]. Safety comes before certain decided rights because short it, there is no point in maintaining those rights contained by the first place. How can you have the right of privacy and rights specified in the fourth amendment if you don't even feel undisruptive walking out of your front door? Definitely use the idea that there hasn't been an attack on US soil since 9/11, hence the Patriot Act have been working.
Is it more important to be able to communicate to your boyfriend on the phone at hours of darkness in confidentiality, or to know that you can feel safe surrounded by going to school every day?
Sure, the Patriot Act is used with population who are innocent, but how else can we ensure full safety on American ground if the Act is not in place?
Modifications to the Patriot Act would be an abomination, thus practically making it obsolete.
It is good because it allows much more domestic spying. Homegrown terrorist are the biggest threat to this country right presently!
Oh wait, I am a schizophrenic and that was my Sean Hannity personality . . . sorry.
Try googling "effects of patriot's Act"
One of the honourable things is that it make it easier for law enforcement to track terrorists and prevent attacks.
I'm not sure it's worth the cost, though.
7. My definition of a patriot is anyone who defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
