Yes, balisong knives are considered switchblades and they are illegal based on the reasoning that they are concealable and can also be brought out to stab someone very quickly. The funny thing is that knives that you push the blade open with your thumb are perfectly legal and you can have them at any blade length and carry them in your pocket as long as they are closed. Many of these knives are as easily opened and closed as a balisong. Silly isn't it?

The main thing is that it is illegal to own one in the state of Calif. The reasoning behind this escapes me, it just another stupid law to 'protect' us, inacted by a bunch of lazy, ill informed politicians.
