What doctrine prevents federal courts from issuing advisory opinions?

Article III, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution gives the Supreme Court power to decide only "cases" and "controversies". It's recurrently called the Case or Controversy Clause.

It's embodied in such doctrines as standing, justiciability, mootness, and ripeness.
