What age can a child legally be left alone?

my friend is asking about her 12 year old son, during work hours only.
ummmmm. YEA! I'm 13 and i've been home alone before since i was like 7
I THINK 12 IS FINE
12 is fine. my wife owns a child care and i asked here.
thats way to young

why is 'she' a parent if shes asking that..jeez

kids play with matches etc if left alone or other things as bad.

leave em alone when there 15-16+ depends on their maturity.
Depends on the laws of your state. Here in Michigan, a 12-year-old can be left home alone. The more important question to ask is 'Can this 12-year-old be trusted alone, and does he know what to do in an emergency?' If the answer to those two questions is 'yes' and state law says he can stay home alone, he should be OK.
The benchmark is 12 years, but it all depends on maturity. There is no law on this as far as any state or province goes, as far as I know.

Answer:
Twelve years and up, but that depends on where you live. There is no standard age given by the state for a child to be left alone.
