What's your take on gun rights?
I'd like to hear some people's takes on gun rights...are you for them or against them? and why do you feel the bearing you do?
as an american we hold many right so dear to us and one of them is trying to be taken away when surrounded by fact when they even try to take i away it is a breach of our rights as an american citizen we have a right to protect our selves and if they want my guns they wil own to pry them away from my cold dead fingers im for my gun rights just like im for breathing nouns I'm glad that the UK has very strict gun control laws, although similar to the majority of people I would like to see them banned completely. The simply reason anyone would need a gun is if they plan on killing another individual.
The statistics speak for themselves, America has a liberal (liberal in the UK means the nouns of restrictions, this seems to be opposite to the USA) approach to guns and has some of the worlds peak murder and violent crime rates, south Africa is the same. The UK which is far more restrictive in it's approach have some of the lowest murder and violent crime rates.
If Americans want to go around killing respectively other I'm happy for them and since it is currently legal in the USA to transport a weapon in public they have the right to do so.
Edit ---
If someone could just explain this second amendment to me.
A all right regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to maintain and bear arms shall not be infringed.
It reads to me that if you are in a militia after your right to have arms should not be infringed, a militia is a conscripted army of irregular solders. If your not part of a militia or above conscription age then you shouldn't enjoy the right to weapons.
Edit --
As someone pointed out there are two verson of the second ammendment. The one above is the copy distributed to the states and then ratify by them. The other verson:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the surety of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Was passed by the House and Senate. Both have it in mind the same thing. The house and senate uses a ablative absolute construction, debut phrase followed by a declarative clause, to convey the same meaning.
Crime rate (using Home office and Bureau of Justice):
Gun related crime - USA 477,040 - UK 566
Violent Crime (mesured using the USA system) - USA 1,386,000 - UK 446,218
Murders - USA 17,386 (of which 16,137 be gun related) - UK 756 (this includes july 7 bombing victims and people who died whilst being smuggled into the country.)
Gun control law do little or nothing to curb gun crime. They only thing they do is form it harder for us law abiding citizens to exercise our right to own them. There is one indisputable fact that anti-gun lawmakers other overlook, every single criminal, without exception, breaks the law. So why create more laws?
clint_sticker--Your furious crime statistics hurt your argument. When you consider the population of the US is around 5 times that of the UK, the per capita rate of violent crimes in the UK comes to nearly twice that of the US.
Without a right to possess a gun, the physically weaker are at the mercy of the physically stronger. I can't see how any rational personage would find that fair. This is a tricky question....
Pro Gun Rights...
Human right to bear arms...its within the law currently....and ummm...self defence...defend your own house against intruders.
Con Gun Rights....
Legal rights to possess guns dramatically increase the rate of armed criminal flurry...increased amount of armed burglary etc...etc...therefore MORE crime...so while you do have some means to watch over yourself, the side effect is that you have even MORE dangers to defend yourself against even more very soon....like school shootings and others crimes. Also....its mostly rednecks and hillbillies that supports it anyways.
Also...if guns were MADE against the law, criminals and other people who currently owns guns would just hide it somewhere fromt he regulation, and use it later to kill people etc...and population would somehow smuggle guns from other countries.
I think they should require license and require a safety test in combination next to registering... but they should never ban them.
I also support concealed carry on all properties except places that already own armed guards.
Banning guns only disarms law abiding citizens.
Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the warranty of a free State, the RIGHT of the PEOPLE to keep and bear Arms, shall NOT BE INFRINGED.
That is my "take", and my reason ... it is really that simple.
No involve to justify, or qualify why, to anyone...
And I am not a redneck or hillbillie... I am an American Citizen.
The militia is made up of private Citizens, and as such, can be expanded as needed, and is active only when needed, it is not a standing force... reflect on of it as a last resort type thing... the SCOTUS has not long ruled on private ownership, and upheld private ownership... btw, the comma's that were omitted by a poster are more important than they realize... now later, I could come back with accurate info on the actual crime stats in the UK, but this is not a forum, but a simple answer site.
