How to deal with employees of your utility company....?

coming onto your property, unannounced, no uniform, no name tag, driving a personal vehicle with no company term? I will call my gas company, Mountain Gas Co. Their employees just come and walk from my property as they see fit. The meters on my property were checked on Monday. One employee, just pulled into the courtyard behind my garage and was nosing around. Wasn't even looking at the meter. I enjoy video/audio surveillance cameras and have him on video tape. Before, I could confront him, he jumped into his truck and took stale. Tried calling the gas company and got their answering service, which, knows nothing!
Call the police and database a report. No employees should be on your property whether they are direct hires or contractors unless they have credentials and why they are on your property. You can have your utilities disconnected, but that's in the region of it. By receiving utilities you grant them permission to come onto your property to read your meter and inspect / protract their property.

In fact, it's usually a utility easement that they are granted. That means you can't even shut off your utilities and deny them the right to come onto your property for conservation. You even have to ensure their safety - put your dogs up, etc. They can legally fail to acknowledge trespassing signs.

He may have been inspecting your gas piping to make sure it isn't rusty or leak, or doing any of a million things. Why don't you let him do his job and stop being so paranoid?

By the passageway...audio surveillance is usually illegal even on your own property. It's usually illegal to record a conversation short consent or a warning that audio recording is in progress. Not a big concordat, but you can get slapped for it.
I'm assuming you are in the States.

Unfortunately, these people are specified as Licensees, and their company has an easement of your property, which means that not only are they allowed on your home, but you have to ensure their safety. Kind of a crappy deal, but later again they are usually a lot less shady.

Hope this helps.
Utility Co. personnel are required to carry ID which identifies them as such.

Send a certified, return receipt dispatch to the Pres. of the utility. Explain the problem, and let them know that you will assume that anyone on your property that doesn't first ID themselves to you will be considered a trespasser, and you will call the police to have them arrested. Your movements will take effect 10 days after they receive the letter.

call the police and show them your tape
afterwards call your City Mayor and make a real fruitless stink about it= My meter reader wears a uniform and a tag or better run to your local TV station and give them the tape hi ! this is a gas metter reader correct !!!!! or was it a guy snooping around..... I would indeed droop on to the tape and take it to the police dept. right away..... it could be someone acting like a police officer..... infact he be seeing if he can steal something from you or stalking you .... you need to call the police as soon as you get this message....
