Immigrants 'denied citizenship for demonstrating against Britain, a good steep forward?

Immigrants could be denied UK citizenship if they take part in unpatriotic undertakings like demonstrating against British troops. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/labour/5964217/Immigrants-denied-citizenship-for-demonstrating-against-British-troops.html Marks could be deducted from applicants who have a history of anti-social manner, which could include protesting against British troops, or even failing to integrate into British life. Immigrants will be expected to "earn" a British passport by accumulating points for voluntary work, speaking English, paying taxes or having adjectives skills.

Well I dunno... if citizens can do it then immigrant will just wait until they are confirmed as citizens before they do it too, which will receive this idea pointless. Unless the idea is that they could have their citizenship taken away for things close to that, but how can we have two tiers of citizenship ? Not sure that would work. Overall I think its just one small paragraph out of what is otherwise probably a pious idea. I like the bit about them have to speak English.
Or, is it a bad step backwards?
It's a start, but it doesn't really face up to the issue. Most of those who demonstrated against British troops are British citizens already - many were even born here. If you allow mass immigration from third world countries for several decades, and you don't force people to adopt British values because it's non-PC to do so, then this is the sort of thing you get. We've simply become too soft. Can you imagine if we'd allowed unchecked immigration from Germany after WWI, and these people turned out in support of the Nazi parliament in 1939? We wouldn't have ummed and ahed back afterwards, we'd have locked them up or kicked those bastards out, even if they were born here. Do the same beside the enemies we have living in this country in a minute, and you'll have my vote. "They should be made to swear allegiance on their Holy Book" - so I can swear on the Satanic bible if I want to, or a copy of Dianetics? I don't think so matey! All immigrants should be made to swear ON THE BIBLE that they're loyal to this country and the Queen. If you don't want to swear on the Bible, after you have no business whatsoever moving to a Christian country. Some people perhaps entail a reminder what the initials F.D. and D.G. on the coins of our realm actually mean.
Just deport them from where they came from, we do not want them
it would be a good step forward if it wasnt a load of feeble codswallop designed to keep us quiet. it wont happen and the immigrant will continue to do exactly as they please while we pile on more benefits for them.
Making a nuisance of yourself at a military nouns is not going to endear you to the locals in any country. However, we British are proud of our right to protest and we should not deny this to people seeking citizenship. Citizenship lessons should include individual taught how to stand in the pub with a pint of lager axiom: "It's all a waste of money if you ask me - I blame that Gordon Brown"
Being denied citizenship for doing something that 'ordinary' citizens are legally entitled to do, is a retrograde step.
It is fine to demonstrate against the wars around the world that our troops are involved in .What is unacceptable is to berate and maltreat our soldiers who are only carrying out their duty. What I find strange is the number of people who apparently hate this country but option to become citizens and be protected by it.So yes it is a good step forward
Hooray for the UK, it is about time! Now only if the US will follow suit. I do not enjoy an issue with immigrants, but if they come to a country illegally or are protesting within the streets against the country they choose to come to, then by all means SEND them fund to the rat hole they left.
Blah blah blah, spin spin spin. The best solution would deport them immediately and let them argue the valise from their own country instead of crippling this economy. My mates mum has be in England for FORTY yes FORTY years and speaks nothing but ITALIAN the Government are ruled by the media and as such can other be proved to be talking $hite
A very good step forward, if you demonise the country you are trying to get citizenship contained by why should you be allowed residency?
They should be made to swear allegiance on their Holy Book and their cittizenship rights withdrawn if they default. Yes, I think it is a perfect policy being put forward.
And about time!! New Labour seem to hold finally woken up to the fact that most people in this country are p!ssed sour at immigrants and "British" minorities "dissing" this country, it's beliefs, it's history and especially those who guard our shores. If they don't like it then they should feck sour somewhere else, or even better, don't bother turning up in the first place!!
Once again it sounds tough now but, [1] By the time Labour come to enforce it, it will be so watered down it'll be meaningless. [2] This is just another Labour "we hold listened and we have learned speech." I remember Blair making one on an EU referendum. Quite frankly this will be held untill after the see at which point Alan Johnson will be replaced and these plans will be scrapped. [3] They will actually use it but, it will be so hard to enforce that it'll be smaller amount effective than the current rubber stamp used. Take your pick, most Labour policy falls under 1,2 or 3. The only exception is when they're deduction our freedoms.
Yes it's a step in the right direction. If you have a problem beside how the UK & its government acts then don't come here, seem perfectly fair to me.
this is newly a political stunt it will make no difference to the amount of immigrants coming to the uk plus what about the once that enjoy already got citizenship already just anther con from labour
I wouldn't bet on it happening. This is just more targeting the disillusioned Labour voters and trying to claw posterior a few votes with more empty promises. They are just conducting tests the water to see what is likely to buy off the resolve of the British general public. We don't these platitudes, we need a halt to immigration, full stop! We have over 2 million unemployed and rising, a critical housing shortage, a lb30+ BILLION black hole contained by our taxation for the British to balance with likely import tax rises. A quarter of a million immigrants enter Britain every year, plus asylum-seekers, and not to mention who knows how many illegals. The indigenous British workers are undercut, and sit on the dole, while immigrant jump to the head of the social housing queue. Our children are educated within under-funded schools where barely a word of English is spoken within some areas. Our pensioners starve, and live out their wretched lives in cold inadequate housing, and who knows where on earth our futures will be pension-wise. The streets of many of our cities are no-go areas to White people because of racist Asian gangs who habitually deal in drugs and white prostitution. (See BBC Panorama) and then hold the cheek to use diversity to impose creeping Islamification on Britain. The Left have already used mass immigration as a lever against the British people, to threaten our communities and culture. Isn't it time we put the British people first? Only the BNP have the courage to put the British people first! Vote BNP!
It is a uncertain step. I think we need to be tougher on immigration but free speech is important too. I devise the speaking English and acting in a civil way part be a lot more important. PS most of your other answerers are idiots.
If they don't like it here enough to demonstrate against us, afterwards they obviously don't want citizenship. So it's fair enough not to furnish it to them.
Not individual should they be denied they should be deported and banned from entering the UK.
yes it's a good step .. same as adjectives must learn and speak English ,, and profess patriotism to the country,,, not a religion ..
